Katherine Johnson, former NASA physicist and mathematician “human computer,” watches the premiere of “Hidden Figures” after a reception where she was honored along with other members of the segregated West Area Computers division of Langley Research Center.

Making History.

Romanieo Nicholas Golphin, Jr., is the first child to receive unprecedented VIP invitations to 3 of the worlds foremost scientific and research facilities: CERN, NASA and LLNL. These facilities focus on the areas of particle physics, space and atmospheric sciences and nuclear fusion respectively. Romanieo Jr., is homeschooled by his parents (Romanieo Sr. and Cheri), which means that as an educational team and family, we share in this honor and distinction.

As we enter the final week of Black History Month, my wife and I reflect upon the tremendous debt paid by those who came before us to ensure that education is available to all in this country. From Ruby Nell Bridges Hall, born in 1954, (now age 64) the first African-American child to desegregate an all-white Elementary School in Louisiana during the New Orleans school desegregation crisis in 1960. To those who crafted Brown v. Board of Education (1954), the landmark United States Supreme Court case in which the Court declared state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students to be unconstitutional.* To the work of scientists and mathematicians like Katherine Johnson, NASA’s former “Human Computer” whose calculations of orbital mechanics were critical to the success of the first and subsequent U.S. manned spaceflights. Thus, securing the United States’ dominant role as a global leader in Space Sciences.
*The decision effectively overturned the Plessy v. Ferguson decision of 1896, which allowed state-sponsored segregation, insofar as it applied to public education.

"A Family that Learns Together, Earns a Higher Understanding of the Universe, Together."
Romanieo Nicholas Golphin, Sr.

Unprecedented Scientific Access

Having been invited to 3 of the world’s top scientific and research institutions CERN (Geneva, Switzerland) NASA & Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, gives us a unique perspective on education, modern science and “tomorrow’s workforce.”

3rd LLNL U.S. Department of Energy (Nuclear Fusion)

3rd LLNL U.S. Department of Energy (Nuclear Fusion)

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is a federal research facility in Livermore, California, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). LLNL is self-described as “a premier research and development institution for science and technology applied to national security.” Its principal responsibility is ensuring the safety, security and reliability of the nation’s nuclear weapons through the application of advanced science, engineering and technology.

Nuclear Fusion is the energy process
at the core of the Sun and every star. LLNL’s National Ignition Facility is designed to replicate that energy production. We were invited so Romanieo Jr., could have insight to the Department of Energy’s attempt at Fusion.

Remarkable and Groundbreaking Ideas

  • LLNL’s NIF National Ignition Facility
  • LLNL’s Target Chamber 180,000,000 Degrees
  • LLNL’s Rapid Crystal Growth
